We are proud to be the only optometric clinic in the area to offer an OCT scan to help detect the start of ocular diseases. The OCT gives us an unprecedented look inside your eyes and can help detect eye diseases before irreversible damage has been done. Learn more about the OCT here.
CHILDREN'S EYE EXAMINATIONS
The American Optometric Association recommends baby's first eye assessment should be between 6-12 months, even if no eye or vision problems are apparent. During this examination Dr. Menge looks for excessive or unequal amounts of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, checks eye movement, and eye health. These problems are not common, but it is important to identify children who have them at this young age. Vision development and eye health problems are easier to correct if treatment begins early. Children should be seen before age one, at age three, and again before your child starts kindergarden. After age five, your child should see an eye doctor each year to be checked for amblyopia (lazy eye), color vision, binocular vision, and for an eye health assessment. If you notice your child gets headaches, squints, complains of double vision, or has difficulty reading, you should consider an eye examination.
Dr. Menge has the knowledge and instruments to diagnose and treat most ocular emergencies. She is able to take same day appointments or walk-ins for eye emergencies. Given the nature and potential problems that are associated with certain eye emergencies, you will always be assured that your cases are given the highest in priority. Please be aware that symptoms of sudden flashes, floaters, loss of vision, or sudden double vision may need some special attention. If it is determined that we are unable to treat you, a referral to the appropriate specialist will be extended. Some eye health care emergencies that are available for treatment include: Corneal foreign bodies, corneal abrasions, eyelid abrasions, bacterial eye infections, severe allergies, iritis (eye pain), and sports injuries.

Vision therapy is a customized program with specific exercises designed to improve visual syptoms and performance over time. By training the eyes to work together better, a patient can often decrease or totally eliminate double vision, headaches, or some reading difficulties. Vision therapy also offers higher cure rates in treating amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (cross eyed, wandering eye, and eye turns) than compared to eye surgery, glasses, and/or patching without therapy.
